AbstractIn this chapter, some basic concepts in inverse problems are presented, with a focus on application in radiative transfer. A brief discussion is also made about the vector of unknowns to be determined and the experimental data to be used. For the implicit formulation of the inverse problem, i.e., as an optimization problem, the solution using the deterministic method of LevenbergMarquardt (LM) is described. Questions regarding the existence and uniqueness of the solution, as well as the use of regularization techniques, are not addressed in this book. The main objective is to present the metaheuristics and the results obtained with the solution of inverse problems formulated in an implicit way, i.e., as optimization problems.
